Artist Name: Los Jubilados
Genre: Afro-Cuban, Son
Country: Cuba

Artist Bio:

The nine musicians who make up Los Jubilados explain that they formed the band in 1994 for two reasons: On one hand, out of necessity, and on the other, because they believed that they could still play the music better than the young musicians who took over for them. They returned to the stage and began to play the old sones and boleros of their youth and immediately won over an audience of different ages and backgrounds.

"My teacher is the street," says Mario Carcases, Los Jubilados' band leader. "You can't learn this on paper. It's in the veins, in the blood."

With the arrival of the dance bands, Mario followed Bienvenido Granda, Felix Chapottin, the Orchestras of Santiago de Cuba. He founded the Cubanero and sang second voice to Juan Gualberto "Bebeto" Ferre's lead. And, half a century later, they are still singing together.
